Oak Cliff Yacht Club (Centre Island, NY) Announces 2008 Sailing Events

Centre Island, NY (PRWEB) April 25, 2008 -- Oak Cliff Yacht Club, in the Oyster Bay waters of New York, has launched a new website to inform its members and guests of sailing activities at the Club. In 2008, Oak Cliff will continue its Oyster Bay Classic in the Spring and Fall and has launched a new Match Racing program.

The Oak Cliff Yacht Club was founded in April, 2005 in Oyster Bay, New York by three individuals who wanted to be part of a club that was devoted exclusively to yacht racing. As of March, 2008, the Club has grown to 30 members, each of whom is an active racing sailor. The Fleet of members' boats ranges from 20-ish foot keelboats to a pair of Herreshoff NY30s over 100 years old to a 2008-built IRC racer.

Oak Cliff recently launched its website at Oak Cliff Yacht Club (http://www.oakcliffyc.org)

Racing in 2008

The Club is again co-sponsoring with Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club two classic boat regattas along the same lines as 2007: the Oyster Bay Spring Classic to be held in May/June and the Oyster Bay Fall Classic in September/October.

For modern boats, the Club will run its Oak Cliff Summer Series on Saturdays in July and August.

In 2008, the Club is entering the Match Racing arena: the Club has established its own "ladder" where members can challenge other members, using Club boats such as Shields and Match 40s, to establish the top Club teams to compete in the Oak Cliff Match Invitational.

For the Match Invitational, a new event planned for 2008, Oak Cliff will invite other yacht clubs such as American, New York, Pequot and others to compete in match racing in Oyster Bay. Oak Cliff will provide 4 Match 40s for the event; dates and specifics to be determined with the invited clubs.

Facilities

The Club's shoreside facility is a small boathouse facing Oyster Bay. Consistent with the Club's focus, the boathouse has no dining facilities, bar, pool, tennis court, paddle tennis court...it does have direct access to the Bay and wonderful views of some of the member's boats which are docked and moored nearby.

Membership

Potential new members are considered each winter for the following year. The primary requirement for membership is that the individual be a currently active racing sailor
